Edward Shevlin 1841-1906:
Edward Shevlin was born in 1841, in Ireland the son of Patrick and Sarah. The Shevlin family moved to Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the County of Northumber-land, sometime in the 1850's. Edward was 5 ft 5 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes.
On the 29th January 1861, he was convicted at Newcastle under the Criminal Justice Act, and sentenced to 6 months' hard labour. A year later on Wednesday the 29th January 1862, after an argument at the Seven Stars public house in Wall Knoll, Newcastle, Edward was assaulted by John Giblin and Philip Ward. Giblin struck Shevlin over the head with a poker, whilst Ward held him down.
On the 29th January 1861, he was convicted at Newcastle under the Criminal Justice Act, and sentenced to 6 months' hard labour. On the 14th March 1862, he was sent down for six months' with hard labour. Convicted at Newcastle under the Criminal Justice Act. (Stealing a pair of boots belonging to Mr. Toole.)
7th October 1862, at Durham, three years penal servitude for felony.
3rd January 1866, at Newcastle, seven years' penal servitude for stealing a new top coat, value 25s., from the shop door of Mr Israel Jacobs, in Clayton Street.
3rd September 1872: six months, Convicted at Newcastle under the Criminal Justice Act.
22nd May 1876: three months Convicted at Newcastle under the Criminal Justice Act.
15th October 1879: four months hard labour, for stealing a pair of boots, belonging to William Graham on the 26th July 1879.

Edward cohabited with Mary Ann Young, on Monday the 12th December 1881, he had come home drunk, and without any provocation, took hold of Mary by the hair and pushed her up and down on the floor and against the walls and kicked her violently in the stomach and other parts of the body.
Over twenty-three years' later in 1903, Edward would marry Mary Ann Young. Three years later in 1906 Edward died.
