 Edmund was born at Chelsea, London in 1886, the son of James Michael McCormack and Elizabeth Cole, who were married at St. Johns Church, Worlds End Chelsea, on the 5th August 1878. Edmund joined The Royal Fusiliers in June 1903. He was 5 ft 3 ½ inches tall, 112 pounds, 30 ½ + 3 = 33 ½ inch chest, with a fresh complexion, light brown hair and hazel eyes.
