Rosina Bridges was baptised the 7th Feb 1836, at Huntingdon, in the County of Huntingdonshire, the daughter of Reuben and Elizabeth nee Woodward. In 1856, finding herself in the family-way, she come down to London, and stayed in the Shoreditch Workhouse, where in December 1856, she gave birth to a illegitimate son David Bridges. Rosina married George Goodwin the son of Matthew in 1857, at Huntingdon.
It is not known what happened to George and Rosina. Young David on the other-hand, was living in the Huntingdon Workhouse. In December 1868, he was charged with doing damage to the hospital holly hedge, along with two other boys' the gardener had given the boys his own punishment, so the Bench therefore discharged the boys' with a caution. |
At 14 years' he was 4 ft 8 ½ inches, with light brown hair and grey eyes, living at Piggotts Yard High Street Huntingdon.

On the 18th September 1871, Bridges along with John Beale, William Ashley, Walter Jackson, John Gumbley, were brought up in custody by P.C. Spencer charged with having been found sleeping under the arches of the Great Northern Railway Bridge, in Brampton Road. They were reprimanded and discharged.

John Gumbley and David Bridges, both of Huntingdon were charged with stealing one oil cake, on the 11th November 1871, the property of William Brown a farmer of Leighton, both boys were sentenced to 3 months' hard labour, both boys had been punished before for committing offences.
On the 4th August 1872, he was wanted for damage to certain apple trees, by breaking the branches and stealing the apples. In 1877, David Bridges married Charlotte Agnes Taylor in Huntingdon. David and Charlotte had nine children: George Thomas Bridges 1878- 1959, was born in 1878 at Alconbury Weston in Huntingdonshire. He married Dora Brown in 1912. |

November 1894, David was fined 2s. 6d., for neglecting to send his children regularly to school. (He had been fined several times, for neglecting to send his children to school.) It was normal for poor family's to send their children out to work instead of sending them to school
